Chicago Animal Care and Control quickly took over, and the dog, who would be named Sugar Snap, was placed under their vigilant care. His condition was severe, and the clock was ticking for the rescue team to provide life-saving aid.
At the shelter, veterinarians discovered that Sugar Snap was so weak he struggled to stand. However, when presented with food, his spirits lifted—an encouraging sign of his determination to survive.
Recognizing his fighting spirit, he was moved to One Tail at a Time, a rescue organization dedicated to providing him with the critical care he needed.
Sugar Snap’s treatment began right away. A blood transfusion was crucial in stabilizing his fragile health, though his path to recovery was fraught with ups and downs. Gratefully, with committed medical care, balanced nutrition, and unyielding support, he gradually improved. As he grew stronger, the need for a feeding tube disappeared, and he began gaining weight steadily.
In a matter of weeks, Sugar Snap underwent an incredible transformation. From a frail 19-pound canine, he blossomed to a healthy 34 pounds and regained his ability to walk.
His remarkable recovery led to a new chapter; he was placed in foster care, where he continued to make strides. His foster family was astounded by his rapid progress, watching him thrive until he reached a robust 40 pounds.
What commenced as a fight for life evolved into a heartwarming tale of renewal. Sugar Snap’s foster mom, a veterinarian, formed a deep bond with him and decided to make the arrangement permanent through adoption.
Now, Sugar Snap enjoys a loving household complete with a dog sibling named Fitz and a cat friend called Noodle.
