Being a rescuer can be incredibly fulfilling, yet it also comes with its own set of challenges and heartaches.
One such emotional moment occurs when rescuers come across an abandoned or neglected animal. That’s exactly what happened with a delightful black Labrador mix named Roxie.

Roxie’s journey began when she was separated from her family due to the catastrophic fires in Los Angeles, California. Eventually, kind-hearted rescuers managed to get in touch with her family, but what happened next took everyone by surprise.
A woman named Marisol alerted the Hope For Paws team after discovering Roxie wandering near the fire-ravaged area. Homeless and alone, Roxie was in dire need of help.
The rescue team quickly responded. Discovering that Roxie was microchipped, they hoped to reunite her with her family. Upon arrival, they ensured she was not injured and gave her a much-needed bath because her coat was dirty from the ordeal.

“She was so dirty, and I suspected she may have escaped the fire area…” the Hope For Paws team shared in a social media post.
Following this, the team contacted Roxie’s owners using information from her microchip. They eagerly anticipated a happy reunion. Instead, the family made it clear that they did not wish to have Roxie back.
This rejection left Roxie without a home, transforming her from a family pet to a shelter resident. Despite this sudden change, Roxie’s joyful demeanor never wavered.
Through a partnership with the organization Maison Sûre, Roxie, now called Stella, found a comfortable temporary home. She has shown the traits of a family dog, getting along with everyone she meets.

“Stella is ready to find a forever home…or a foster family to shower her with love,” Maison Sûre announced on Instagram.
Although Stella is in her senior years and suffers from arthritis, this does not stop her from being active. She enjoys playing with tennis balls and is just as happy to snuggle up.
“Though she has a bit of arthritis…she still loves to run, play, and chase after her favorite tennis balls…a loyal friend who just wants a safe, loving place to call home,” concluded the rescue.
Stella lost her home through no fault of her own, yet she still has so much to give. There is no doubt she will make a wonderful companion once her perfect family steps forward.
Until then, she continues to be cared for by her loving caregivers. Good luck, Stella!
