Buried Alive, Rescued by Compassion: The Incredible Survival Story of Kiryusha the Dog

Published on

In a remarkable story of resilience and compassion, a German dog named Kiryusha was given a second chance at life after a harrowing ordeal. Abandoned by his previous owner in Russia, Kiryusha was injected with poison and left for dead, buried alive.

Defying the odds, the seven-year-old dog managed to dig his way out of the grave and was later discovered by a kind-hearted passerby.

Olga Lysteseva, a 39-year-old local resident, spotted the weary dog trudging down a wet highway in Northern Russia. Realizing the animal needed help, she decided to turn her car around and return to assist Kiryusha.

After feeding him, Lysteseva drove 160 kilometers with Kiryusha to an animal rescue center located in Ukhta.

The rescue center quickly acted, sharing Kiryusha’s story and images online in hopes of gathering information about his past.

This led them to the dog’s former owners, a married couple, who confessed to attempting to end Kiryusha’s life because they believed he was aggressive.

They expressed regret for their actions, telling the center they saw no other option than to resort to poison and burial in a remote area.

Despite the traumatic experience, Kiryusha was examined by a veterinarian and found to be in relatively good health, showing no critical signs of illness.

Staff member Ekaterina Nimak from the rescue center praised the compassion shown by Lysteseva, highlighting her role in giving Kiryusha a fresh start.

Now safe and secure, Kiryusha is adjusting well to his new environment. Though he tends to avoid other dogs, he walks calmly on a leash and behaves amiably, not causing distress to others around him.

“It’s been an incredible journey for everyone involved,” Nimak shared, reflecting on the dog’s recovery and new beginning.
