Kathy, an artist from El Dorado, Santa Fe, had an unexpected guest on her front porch – a mother bobcat and her three energetic kittens.
In a rare and heartwarming moment, she witnessed the wild feline family up close and even managed to photograph them as they explored her porch.

Bobcats, known for their shy, nocturnal behavior, typically stay hidden from human eyes. They are native to North America and adapt well to a range of environments, from woodlands and marshes to deserts and suburban areas.
Kathy’s encounter offered a unique glimpse into their lives, showing just how playful these animals can be in the right setting.

During the visit, Kathy noticed the mother bobcat’s gentle yet protective demeanor with her kittens, despite their natural reputation as solitary and cautious hunters.
Bobcats, also called wildcats, are easily recognized by their tufted ears, long legs, and short, bobbed tails.
Known for their agility, these skilled hunters can leap up to 10 feet to catch prey, sometimes even animals larger than themselves.

While bobcats generally avoid human interaction, this mother bobcat first hissed at Kathy to establish her space, then settled down to feed her kittens on the porch.
The encounter, captured in Kathy’s photographs, quickly gained attention online, with many expressing amazement at the rare insight into the bobcats’ family life.
Inspired by the experience, Kathy is now memorializing the moment through her artwork, sharing the wonder of this unexpected wildlife encounter with others.
