On September 22, a troubling situation reached the attention of the animal rescue organization GWARP concerning an elderly dog that had been neglected for food and water despite being gravely ill.
Veteran rescuers at GWARP acknowledged that in all their years, they hadn’t faced a case quite like this one.
The dog, suspected of suffering from osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, had been ignored for years.
Tethered by a short chain, the dog managed to survive only on scraps and waste, resulting in severe malnutrition and the emergence of cancer.
Adding to this harrowing scenario, the dog had endured continuous abuse from its intoxicated owner, as revealed by the person who reported the case.
The poor animal’s movement was confined to just a couple of feet because of the chain’s limited length.
When GWARP attempted to rescue the dog, the owner resisted, claiming ownership. This prompted the rescue team to seek assistance from local authorities.
A GWARP member shared, “When we approached the police, it felt like the dog almost expressed his sorrow out loud.
Fortunately, after presenting the necessary documents, we managed to convince the owner to release the dog, provided we didn’t press charges.”
Aware of the urgent need for medical intervention, GWARP prioritized the dog’s immediate healthcare.
This included extensive examinations, blood tests, and a necessary amputation with tissue sample analysis. The team commented, “It’s a long road ahead.”
X-rays confirmed the presence of osteosarcoma, though there was a relief in knowing that the cancer hadn’t metastasized to the lungs.
This offered the dog, now named Jordan, a slight chance at recovery even with a rapidly growing tumor that was causing his skin to tear.
The tumor’s growth was obvious as it expanded each day.
To aid Jordan’s recovery both physically and mentally, he was given a gentle, calming bath to help erase his painful past.
However, further crucial medical steps needed to occur in Turkey due to limitations in Azerbaijan. Jordan’s departure was planned for the upcoming days.
Once in Istanbul, Jordan received a comprehensive medical examination, including full-body X-rays under sedation, to prepare for his pivotal surgery.
The surgery was a success, removing the cancerous limb without any complications.
Three days after the surgery, Jordan showed remarkable resilience, quickly adapting to his new condition. He regained his appetite, enjoying his meals with enthusiasm.
The team urges everyone to send their best wishes for Jordan’s swift recovery and hopeful future.
“We all love you, Jordan,” they conveyed, thankful for his progress and optimistic about what lies ahead.
