An abandoned dog, left alone in a park frequented by coyotes, was in search of safety and companionship. Her quest led her to roam the streets until she stumbled upon a peaceful yard that seemed secure—but her challenges were far from over.
Concerned for the dog’s well-being, a local homeowner contacted Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, for assistance. Hall promptly arrived at the scene, where she was greeted by the sight of the anxious dog, her eyes heavy with despair. Conversations with neighbors revealed that many had attempted to help the dog, but she was too afraid to trust anyone who approached her.

“Everyone wanted to help, but her fear was overwhelming. When I arrived, I could feel her fear and sadness,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.
With an incoming storm adding urgency to the situation, Hall quickly set up a humane trap filled with treats to entice the wary dog. The dog, later named Iris, remained too cautious to venture into the trap.

To give Iris some space and reassurance, Hall started to slowly drive away. Then, something remarkable occurred.
“[S]he ran after my van. She sensed I was there to help her,” Hall recounted.

Seizing this breakthrough, Hall gently coaxed Iris into a secure crate using baby gates, a tactic that proved successful. As Iris was safely contained, neighbors celebrated, relieved that she was finally out of danger.
Hall approached the now-secure Iris and offered calming words. Iris, not fully aware of how her life was set to transform, seemed to sense something was changing. As Hall lifted Iris into her van for the journey to the veterinarian, she noticed a heartwarming sight that nearly brought her to tears: Iris rested on the armrest, her tiny paws clasped as though in prayer.

“It seemed like she was truly praying. She had been through so much, and it felt like she was really grateful,” Hall told The Dodo.
Upon arriving at Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, the staff warmly welcomed Iris. Her gentle demeanor quickly won their hearts. After a comprehensive medical checkup, Iris was found to be in excellent health.

Iris transitioned to a loving foster home, where she experienced the comfort of safety, care, and affection for the first time in a long while. Her sweet nature continued to blossom, and she charmed everyone with her unique habit of reaching her paws through the kennel bars as if beckoning for a forever home.
Now, Iris knows what it means to be truly cherished. She enjoys the warmth and security of a real home, eagerly awaiting the moment when her perfect forever family finds her.
