It’s always heart-wrenching to encounter animals struggling for survival on the streets. Such was the case for a lonely German Shepherd in Montebello, California. For days, this poor dog remained motionless under a tree, sparking concern among compassionate internet users who shared his plight.
The situation changed when Isabel Gallardo, a seasoned rescuer from Marinwood, California, learned about the stranded German Shepherd. Determined to assist, she hurried to Montebello. However, her initial attempts to rescue the dog proved challenging.

“Upon arriving, an animal control officer had just pulled up. I told her I was there to help. Despite hours of effort and calling for backup, the dog evaded capture, as if saying, ‘not today ladies,’” Isabel recounted on Facebook.
Fortunately, Isabel called on her network of fellow rescuers, and they joined her efforts. Crucial to the mission was Suzette Hall, a well-known animal rescuer, who brought a necessary trap that ultimately secured the dog’s rescue.
Dubbed Monte, this German Shepherd was finally lifted from his predicament, thanks to the tireless efforts of these devoted rescuers. Isabel expressed gratitude towards others involved, acknowledging “Laurie Mitchel for her countless contributions and invaluable friendship,” as well as “Laura Bobadilla for her vigilant watch in Montebello.”
Isabel welcomed Monte into her home, committing to his further care. Within a few days, Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, shared uplifting news on Facebook.

“Before and after,” Suzette posted, illustrating Monte’s transformation. “He should be in a home and a bed, not abandoned under a tree.”
According to Suzette, Monte has faced numerous challenges, but with ongoing care, he is improving. Diagnosed with anemia at Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, Monte received a medicated bath, flea treatment, deworming, bloodwork, and essential injections.
“With a few weeks of flea-free living and a nutritious diet, we’ll proceed with neutering and dental work,” Suzette explained. “This sweet dog will soon be a whole new version of himself.”
Monte’s fresh start is a testament to the dedication of those who refused to abandon him. “We love you so much, sweetheart,” Suzette concluded. “We won’t give up on you like others did.”
