Every night, Captain, a dog under the care of Detroit Dog Rescue, chooses an unusual spot to sleep —a simple cardboard box. Although his cozy dog beds are ignored, the cardboard box seems to be the only thing that brings him comfort.

Kristina Millman-Rinaldi, the founder of Detroit Dog Rescue, shared on Facebook, “All he wants at bedtime is a cardboard box. It’s the only way he’s ever felt safe.”

Captain’s story before he was rescued remains mostly a mystery. He was found wandering the streets of Detroit in search of food, a situation that left him very thin and quite sick.

“He has the finest wiggle butt and enjoys doing stunts,” Millman-Rinaldi shared. “Despite everything he’s gone through, he’s incredibly lovely.”

Regardless, she is determined to ensure he has a life filled with warmth and affection, dreaming of the day when he can have a home and a family, complete with as many cardboard boxes as he desires.

“I can’t change his past or erase those memories,” Millman-Rinaldi wrote on Facebook. “But as part of Detroit Dog Rescue, we can give him a future, providing love, safety, and all the cardboard boxes he could want.

Captain, we adore you and your cardboard crates.”
