A cat named Arlo, picked up as a stray, has not only charmed his rescuers but also taken on the role of a mentor to other cats.
After being alerted to a cat in need, Best Friends Felines quickly responded. Found wandering the streets, Arlo, a unique cat with mismatched eye colors known as heterochromia, was brought into the shelter.
At the age of six, he was eager for affection, and the team at Best Friends Felines was more than happy to welcome him into their fold.
The moment Amanda, a foster volunteer, met Arlo, he began to purr contentedly. “He has an incredibly sweet nature and loves to be in the company of people,” shared Best Friends Felines, “We all were enamored with him right away.”
Despite his friendly demeanor, Arlo’s constant need for water suggested there was more to his story. Tests revealed he has a rare condition called Diabetes Insipidus, causing him to feel perpetually thirsty.
This might explain why a cat as impressive as Arlo ended up homeless, the vet posited.
Arlo has since joined the rescue’s palliative foster program, ensuring he gets the lifelong care he needs. Amanda noted, “Even through his numerous vet visits and tests, he showered everyone with affection.”
When introduced to three foster kittens, Arlo’s nurturing instincts kicked in. He quickly warmed up to his new role, guiding the little ones and engaging in playful antics with them.
Watching Arlo frolic with the kittens, his caretakers noted, “It’s heartening to see him acting so youthful.”
Arlo has since mentored several kittens, helping them grow until they were ready to leave foster care. His latest charges hang on his every move, learning from their elder.
“He loves grooming them after play and then curls up for a nap in his favorite spots.”
This affectionate cat treasures his time with his foster family, frequently indulging in snuggles on the couch or the bed.
Amanda shared that Arlo has a special bond with her youngest daughter and humorously remarked, “He adores me for being the one who feeds him.”
Arlo enjoys basking by the window, watching the world go by. He has a unique habit of kneading, using all four paws to fashion his cozy nest.
At night, he claims Amanda’s pillow, gently swishing her face with his tail. “Arlo has firmly made his place in our hearts, and we are committed to giving him all the love and care he deserves.”
